The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) will host Techfest 2015 from December 26 to 28. In association with Times of India, the three-day fest is one of Asia’s largest.
The Techfest will host various exhibitions, workshops and competitions for those interested in technology. The festival is also a platform for students to interact with personalities from across the globe to bridge the gap between industry and academia. Among the speakers this year are former ISRO chairman, K Radhakrishnan, Nobel Prize winner in Physics, Serge Haroche and CEO of BitTorrent, Eric Klinker.
This year, the festival is also conducting an international summit addressing the idea “Internet of Things”, which will give students insights into the digital revolution and how they can make the most of the opportunities available. The summit will start by a keynote lecture by Bob Frankston, co-creator of Spreadsheets followed by a panel discussion with representatives from companies like Tech Mahindra, Cisco, Oracle and Vodafone.
The highlight event of this year’s Techfest is Soul, a competition to make low-cost solar lamps, which can be made available to the common people in the rural parts of our nation as a part of the institute’s Million SOUL project.
Patronized by UNESCO and UNICEF, the festival usually sees a footfall of more than 1.45 lakh people comprising youth from over 2,500 colleges.
